"My Blind Brother" Review (***½)

Adam Scott, Nick Kroll and Jenny Slate star in this brutally honest comedy about disability. "My Blind Brother" dives head first into the subject and puts a fresh spin on the ‘slacker comedy.'

Adam Scott plays Robbie. He’s a star athlete and a local icon whose blindness only pushes him to do better. His brother Bill, on the other hand, is not quite as motivated. We get everything we need to know from our two leads in the opening scene, where we see Robbie—rocking sun glasses and a tracksuit—running along side his sweat-drenched little brother, Bill. The two are strapped together as Bill guides Robbie to the finish line. The surrounding crowd goes wild as they celebrate Robbie and completely ignore Bill as he collapses in an effort to catch his breath.

Review: "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (****)

The not-so-secretly talented Ben Stiller is at it again. “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” a remarkable tale about an average man, is the second film to adapt James Thurber’s 1939 short story by the same name. Samuel Goldwyn, Jr., whose father produced the original in 1947, oversaw sixteen years of developmental changes before finally taking root in a partnership with 20^th Century Fox. Stiller, who directed "Zoolander" (2001) and "Tropic Thunder" (2008), landed both the lead role and director’s honor.

Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) is an affable, unassuming career photojournalist at Life magazine. When the magazine announces that the future of Life is Life Online, an internet-only format that threatens a number of tenured values and employees, Walter, who processes the negatives of any photo Life publishes, begins to worry. When he realizes he can’t find the negative planned for the final issue’s cover photo, he starts to panic. His international journey to uncover the photo’s whereabouts connects him with places he’s never heard of, fears he’s never faced, and a girl with whom he’s never had the courage to flirt in person.

Atlanta-filmed comedy "A.C.O.D." to hit theaters October 4th

After filming in Atlanta last spring and premiering at Sundance this past winter, we've waited a while to hear what release fate awaited Stu Zicherman's "A.C.O.D.". The film stars Adam Scott and features a terrific supporting crew in Richard Jenkins, Catherine O'Hara, Amy Poehler, Jessica Alba, Jane Lynch, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Clark Duke.

As Carter (Scott) tries to build a truce between his long divorced parents (Jenkins and O'Hara), the stress that comes along with such a difficult task pushes him towards his childhood therapist, Dr. Judith (Lynch), who has written a book about 'adult children of divorce'—even using Carter as an anonymous reference.

In Atlanta, "A.C.O.D." filmed in Castleberry Hill, Midtown and Buckhead, while also shooting scenes in Decatur and at Lake Lanier. The film hits theaters on October 4th. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Georgia filmed "A.C.O.D." to premiere at Sundance

Adam Scott stars in "A.C.O.D."

Last spring, a host of stars were in town to film "A.C.O.D." (or "Adult Children of Divorce"). Adam Scott, Amy Poehler, Jane Lynch, Richard Jenkins, Catherine O'Hara, Jessica Alba and Mary Elizabeth Winstead spent a few weeks shooting on location in Buckhead, Castleberry Hill, Decatur, Gainesville and Midtown. We don't have a trailer yet, but with a cast like this, there's no way this movie isn't going to be hilarious. Writer-director Stu Zicherman's debut premieres Wednesday, January 23rd at the Sundance Film Festival. This is another one that might be a great fit to come back home for the Atlanta Film Festival.
